Planet Her
Doja Cat — 2021
Planet Her is Doja Cat’s first self-proclaimed highly conceptual album that touches on every aspect of divine femininity. Leaning into a CGI aesthetic that Doja Cat had expressed interest in, we created the Wonders of Planet Her in the form of other-worldly cinemagraphs. We worked with Doja’s team to define what a few Wonders would be and drew inspiration from different songs and lyrics off the album. To bring it to life we worked with photographer Bryan Huynh who is known for creating magical 3D environments around his subjects. The final result was a three-part story that told the folklore or Planet Her, showcased authentic Black girl beauty, and introduced the next chapter of Doja Cat as an artist.
As we concepted the different wonders and relics of Planet Her, we challenged and subverted little male-focused symbols and motifs that we unconsciously live in. We questioned why the Eiffel Tower was so phallic and created our own version that celebrated women. With these photographs, we reclaimed feminine power and what it means to be sexy in a way that truly celebrated Doja Cat rather than from the male gaze.
Planet Her is in Orbit. At the Planet Her Headquarters, Doja Cat flicks through the 10s of each planet, waiting for a prospect that is worthy of conquering. One by one they prepare gifts for her arrival through the Planet Her Portal. From mountains, to statues, to her own Planet Her Tower, she collects the finest gift of all: a trove of suitors back to display.
